Easy Chana Pulao Recipe

Here is an Easy Chana Pulao Recipe (chickpea pilaf):


  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 1 cup chickpeas (soaked overnight and drained)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups water
  • Chopped cilantro for garnish

Easy Chana Pulao Recipe


  1. wash the rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in a bowl of water for 30 minutes. Drain the rice and set it aside.
  2. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and coriander seeds and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add the onion, tomato, and bell pepper and cook for 5-6 minutes until the vegetables are soft.
  4. Add the chickpeas, garam masala, chili powder (if using), and salt to the pot. Stir well to combine.
  5. Add the drained rice and 2 cups of water to the pot. Stir well to combine.
  6. Increase the heat to high and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid.
  7. Simmer the pulao for 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the water has been absorbed.
  8. Fluff the pulao with a fork and garnish with chopped cilantro. Serve hot.
