Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • Chopped fresh cilantro, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a pressure cooker, add the soaked kidney beans, 2 cups of water, and 1 tsp of salt. Cook on high heat until the pressure cooker reaches full pressure, then reduce the heat to low and cook for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat the ghee or oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the bay leaf, cinnamon stick, cloves, and cumin seeds and fry until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. Add the onion, ginger, and garlic and fry until the onions are translucent about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the rice and fry for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Add the cooked kidney beans and their cooking liquid, 2 cups of water, 1 tsp of salt, garam masala, cumin powder, coriander powder, and red chili powder. Stir to combine.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the pan with a lid, and cook for 20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot.
