Dry chana dal recipe
Here is a recipe for a Dry chana dal recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup chana dal (split chickpeas)
- 2 cups water
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- Salt, to taste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tbsp oil or ghee
- 2 cloves of garlic (optional)
- 2 green chili peppers (optional)
- 2-3 dried red chili peppers (optional)
- 2 tbsp chopped cilantro (optional)
Instructions:
- Rinse the chana dal under running water until the water runs clear.
- In a pot, add the rinsed chana dal, water, turmeric powder, and salt. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 20-25 minutes or until the dal is tender and cooked through.
- Drain any excess water from the pot and set the dal aside.
- In a separate pan, heat the oil or ghee. Once hot, add the cumin and mustard seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
- Add the chopped garlic, green chili peppers, and dried red chili peppers (if using) and stir-fry for a minute or until fragrant.
- Add the cooked dal to the pan and stir well to combine with the seasoning.
- Cook the dal on medium heat for a few minutes, or until it starts to become dry and starts to brown on the bottom. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking and to prevent burning.
- Serve hot and garnish with chopped cilantro (if using).
- You could also garnish with diced tomatoes and onions, also you could squeeze some lemon juice on top for additional flavor.
