Dabeli recipes at Home
Dabeli is a popular street food from Gujarat, India. It is a sweet and spicy snack made with a mashed potato mixture and various spices and chutneys. Here is a recipe for making dabeli at home:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups boiled and mashed potatoes
- 1/2 cup boiled and peeled peanuts
- 1/4 cup tamarind chutney
- 1/4 cup red chili chutney
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/4 cup finely chopped tomatoes
- 1/4 cup grated coconut
- 2 tbsp chopped cilantro
- 2 tbsp pomegranate seeds
- 2 tbsp crushed roasted peanuts
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
- 8-10 pav buns
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, mix together the mashed potatoes, peanuts, tamarind chutney, red chili chutney, onion, tomatoes, coconut, cilantro, pomegranate seeds, crushed peanuts, sugar, cumin powder, and salt.
- Divide the mixture into 8-10 portions and shape each portion into a patty.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties and fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
- Cut the pav buns in half and toast them in a toaster or on a griddle.
- To assemble the dabeli, spread some tamarind chutney and red chili chutney on the bottom half of the bun.
- Place a patty on top and add some finely chopped onion, tomatoes, and grated coconut.
- Sprinkle with some cilantro and pomegranate seeds and top with some crushed peanuts.
- Close the sandwich with the other half of the bun and enjoy!
- You can add more or less chutneys as per your taste. You can also add sev, a fried noodle-like snack, to give a different texture.
